Introducing the Mental Guru

Heather Langley Mental Guru

My ‘tag’ name is a nod to the Marc Bolan & T Rex Glam Rock hit of the 70’s Metal Guru (giving away my age I know!) However, I warn you it’s an ear worm if you Google it!
What qualifications do I have to warrant the title ‘Mental Guru’? Essentially I do not consider myself any more qualified than the next person but having been immersed in the world of health & well being with the emphasis on stress management for over 27 years I hoped I’ve managed to collect some useful information along the way. It is this I want to share with you in this blog. I don’t approach this from the perspective of never having suffered; quite the opposite. I consider myself to be a survivor; someone who has been to the bottom of the well and clawed their way back up to a more or less even keel. I am managing my mental health daily with a variety of tools including mindfulness, meditation and relaxation techniques. Still it has to be said that some days are easier than others and, for me, it is always helpful to know that someone else faces the sames challenges I do. This is not a diary, although inevitably there will be times when I will use current events as an illustration. Nor I hasten to add is this a confessional.
Those who know me know that I am not a huge fan of social media! So it’s taken me a while to be convinced that I can use this method to help others at the same time as helping myself. I intend to blog for one year, at least twice per week. Well, I will try…
